In RE3 there is a puzzle where you have to place three balls (a crystal one, an obsidian one and an amber) in their correct slots under the three clocks. If you have all three in the right order then you get the key. I've always solved this by trial and error since there are only six combinations. Is there some logical way in which you're supposed to figure out the right order? Is there some file I've missed that mentions crystal, obsidian and amber? Something like that?

Weights. That is all. They all weigh different, and each slot moves the clock hands different too. Kind of trial and error.

Pretty much. There is logic behind it, but theres so few possibilities that you'll finish it before you can understand the pattern.

Each ball moves the clock by one, two, or three hours. The left slot moves the clock backward, the middle one moves it forward, and the right one moves it forward by twice as much.

It's a logic puzzle yeah. Not as much trial and error since all you really need to do is check the weights and then move on to solve the puzzle. No files needed.
